Top 5 Must-Do's Near Lake Louise

We received some of the greatest news last week - majority of restrictions in Alberta will be lifted by the beginning to middle of March! That means it’s time to book your flights and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!

While there are so many awesome places to visit throughout Canada, I’ve put together a list of my top 5 must-do’s near Lake Louise! So - let’s get this started!

  1. Lake Agnes Trail at Lake Louise

This is by far one of my favorite hikes to do. Not only do you get the beautiful views of Lake Louise but you also get a great workout, amazing views of Lake Agnes, and there’s even a tea house at the top (only open during certain times of the year). So after a long hike up you can sit around Lake Agnes, take a breather, and get some hot cocoa or a snack to rest before making the move back down. *This is a dog-friendly hike. Our pup, Charlie, has hip dysplasia and she was able to do this hike! It was a little more strenuous then we normally take her on but she did very well!

2. Ice Sculptures at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise (winter activity)

If you’re visiting Lake Louise during the winter, be sure to spend some time admiring the incredible ice sculptures. They are created during a competition but left all winter for visitors to enjoy. This event typically takes place during January each year, so be sure to experience to magic of ice sculpting if you’re visiting during that time!

3. Lake Louise Lakeshore Trail

This 2km out and back trail is stunning and one better suited for those who don’t want any elevation. We did this after hiking up to Lake Agnes and the view from the other side of the lake is breathtaking. It’s sandy at the end and you can really take in the height of the mountains from there while seeing the mouth of the river which gives Lake Louise is stunning color.

4. Moraine Lake

Let me preface my next statement by saying my absolute favorite water in the world is at Harbour Island in the Bahamas - it is crystal clear, pink sand, and will actually take your breath away… it is indescribable. When I saw Moraine Lake, my opinion was challenged because this might be the most beautiful water I have ever seen. Only open a few summer months, Moraine Lake is a short drive from Lake Louise. Keep in mind, there are limited parking spots, so it’s best to be there BEFORE the park even opens. I know it sounds early (7:30am to be precise), but I promise you, it will be worth it.

5. Consolation Lake Trail

This hike was completely different than the other hikes we have done in the area and that’s why I LOVED it. You are in the trees for most of it, but when you get to the end of this ~6km out and back trail, just trust me on this, the views are worth it (see below). When you get to the end, you come out of the brush and are staring at some of the largest rock faces I have ever seen. In the distance you will spot Fay Glacier. We did this trail during summer as there are seasonal closures in the area, so keep that in mind when planning your trip.

While this is a short list of my favorite things to do near Lake Louise, there are endless hikes and memories to make in the area! I’m sharing a few other photos from my many trips to the area below, but if you have any questions or another trail/experience we should check out, please comment below!
